On Father’s Day, Malala Yousafzai’s Dad And Father Of Girl From ‘To Kill A Tiger’ Speak Out Against Patriarchal Thinking
Malala Yousafzai's father Ziauddin and the father of the girl from the Oscar-nominated doc 'To Kill a Tiger' are speaking out against patriarchy.
As shown in the Oscar-nominated documentary To Kill a Tiger, directed by Nisha Pahuja, Kiran’s parents – Ranjit and Jiganti – were pressured by villagers to marry their daughter to one of her attackers to “preserve the family’s honor.” In the documentary, Yousafzai and Ranji engage in “a frank and deeply moving conversation that offers an illuminating insight into the crucial role and power of male allyship,” according to a release. Both men – Yousafzai, an education activist born in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, and Ranjit, a farmer of humble origins in a remote area of India – break from the traditions of their cultures by advocating forcefully for their daughters.
