Olympics closing ceremonies' biggest disasters as Paris Games end - from swarm of moths to spectacular deluge


As the 2024 Olympic Games come to a close in Paris, we take a look back at some of the biggest disaster that have occurred at closing ceremonies in the past...

Minutes into the ceremony, a large rain blip was spotted on the weather radar in the Bureau of Meteorology office by head forecaster Tony Bannister. Soprano Yvonne Kenny was performing at the closing ceremony when a moth landed on her"It was stressful, we were holding our breaths," Mr Bannister said. The ceremony was a trimmed down version of what had been hoped for, with the extinguishing of the Olympic flame eventually signifying the end of the 2016 Games.
