Olympic Snowboarder Sophie Hediger, 26, Dies in Avalanche in Switzerland
Sophie Hediger, a 26-year-old Olympic snowboarder, died in an avalanche in the Swiss mountain resort town of Arosa on Monday, December 23
“We are stunned and our thoughts are with Sophie’s family, to whom we express our deepest condolences,” Swiss-Ski Federation CEO Walter Reusser said in a statement. Oliver was traveling home from a Caribbean vacation with his two daughters — Madita and Annik, whom he shared with wife Jessica Klepser — on January 4. According to Le Parisien, the risk of avalanches is currently very high in Switzerland, with heavy snowfall hitting the region over the past few days.
