News of the World paid women to sleep with celebrities, James Blunt says

Tabloid had women on payroll to get stories about people’s sexual performance, singer tells Hay festival

Speaking at the Hay literary festival in Powys, Blunt was asked about discovering the emails, which he described in his book Loosely Based on a Made-Up Story: a Non-Memoir. Blunt told the Hay audience about his friendship with the actor Carrie Fisher, and said she had been “really mistreating her body” before she died in 2016, partly because of Star Wars bosses putting “pressure on her to be thin”. Blunt has previously said Fisher’s daughter, the actor Billie Lourd, blamed him for her death, as he was with her the night before she was found unresponsive on a flight from London to Los Angeles.
