Newcastle United footballer dead at just 27 as fans rocked by 'heartbreaking news'


Former Newcastle United star Michael Newberry has died suddenly at the age of 27, with his current club Cliftonville confirming the heartbreaking news on Tuesday

Cliftonville released an emotional statement: "Our condolences are extended to Michael's family and friends, as well as the many team-mates he played with during his career, and fans who will be shaken and saddened by this heartbreaking news. Once hailed as one of Newcastle United's most promising young stars and awarded the "Wor Jackie trophy" in 2016 for his talent, he joined the team at just 11 years old, reports the Mirror. The star featured most recently in Cliftonville’s Boxing Day match against rivals Crusaders in the NIFL Premiership, where he was seen playing the full 90 minutes in the side’s 2-0 defeat.
