The Movie Academy has set rules changes for the 2025 Academy Awards that affect Best Picture, drive-ins and qualifying U.S. metro areas. See them all here.
For late-in-the-year films with expansions after January 10, 2025, distributors must submit release plans to the Academy for verification. The other remain Los Angeles County, the City of New York, the Bay Area, Chicago, and Atlanta. The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, given to a creative producer whose body of work reflects a consistently high quality of motion picture production, will now be presented as an Oscar® statuette.
