Netflix, Amblin and Obama-Backed Higher Ground Win Heated Auction for New S.A. Cosby Book ‘King of Ashes’ (EXCLUSIVE)

S.A. Cosby, king of Southern noir, has sold the rights to his forthcoming book "King of Ashes" after fielding a dozen bids.

A highly competitive auction has been raging for weeks over adaptative rights to S.A. Cosby’s forthcoming novel “King of Ashes,” and we have a winner. Netflix, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground emerged victorious over as many as 11 competing bids, multiple sources familiar with the deal told Variety. His previous works include “My Darkest Prayer,” “Blacktop Wasteland,” “Razorblade Tears” and “All the Sinners Bleed.” The latter is already in development with Amblin and Higher Ground, announced in June as another crime series.
