Netflix viewers 'left with chills' after watching real life plane hijacking series
Netflix viewers say they've been left with 'chills' after watching new series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack based on the longest plane hijacking in Indian history
The series takes place in December 1999 (Image: Courtesy Of Netflix)Before the final destination, the plane landed in Amritsar in India, Lahore in Pakistan and Dubai, where 27 of the 176 passengers were released although one was fatally stabbed and others wounded. Vijay Varma, Pankaj Kapur and Naseeruddin Shah are three of the main actors to star in the six part series, which is adapted from the book “Flight Into Fear” by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury, and explores the crisis which was planned to negotiate the release of Pakistani terrorists held in an Indian prison. The character development is meticulous, the atmospheric tension in the claustrophobic confines of the aircraft is amazingly recreated, and the facts of the incident are presented with raw, unvarnished honesty.
