Netflix to release new adaptation of David Nicholls' beloved romantic novel One Day - 13 years after Anne Hathaway's questionable Yorkshire accent raised eyebrows on the big screen

It was a bestselling novel adapted for the big screen 13 years ago to poor reviews - so Netflix must hope its new version of One Day doesn't turn out to be groundhog day.

Even US Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway couldn't save the 2011 movie, but the new TV series boasts budding British actors Ambika Mod, 29, from BBC drama This Is Going To Hurt, and The White Lotus star Leo Woodall, 27, as lead characters Emma and Dexter. A newly-released trailer for the series shows that rising star Ms Mod, 29, who was born to Indian parents and grew up in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, has more of a handle on the northern accent than the Oscar-winning American actress. The 14-epiosde series, which lands on the streaming service on February 8, also stars Poldark actress Eleanor Tomlinson as Mayhew's wife Sylvie and Joely Richardson as new character Helen Cope.
