Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters says the company once contemplated an advertising strategy similar to the one used by Amazon, which starting this month is making subscribers pay extra in order to avoid ads. “We did consider making advertising the default option,” Peters said in response to a Wall Street analyst’s question on the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call. Netflix concluded it was “better to attract them to the advertising plan … based on the benefits: more streams, higher-resolution downloads and, of course, lower price,” Peters said.
