Netflix announces its biggest-ever show is ending - and fans have been left sobbing


me good news today - swiftly followed by some bad news that left some viewers seriously unhappy. The US streaming giant revealed that the second series of Squid Game - a follow-up to the smash hit that captivated its fans back in 2021 - would be hitting screens later this year.

However, it also let slip that a "final season" would be coming next year, meaning the broadcaster is slamming the door on its most popular ever show after its 2025 outing. It ranks as the most-watched TV series in Netflix history - beating Stranger Things and Wednesday - and shot to No1 in 94 countries, including the UK, when it was released. A minute-long trailer for the second series was released today, initially showing athletes competing on an Olympics-style running track, before they are replaced by competitors in the show's famous green tracksuits, who are shown falling to the floor as they are picked off.
