In a video posted to TikTok on Thursday, May 2, the four-time Grand Slam champion, 26, paid playful homage to Challengers, the hit romantic drama starring Zendaya as a tennis phenom caught in a steamy love triangle. Recently, the movie’s screenwriter, Justin Kuritzkes, said that he was inspired to write the script after watching Osaka beat her idol, Serena Williams, in an upset victory at the 2018 U.S. Open. “Immediately, this struck me as this intensely cinematic situation where you’re all alone on your side of the court and there’s this one other person in this massive tennis stadium who cares as much about what happens to you as you do, but you can’t talk to them,” Kuritzkes said in a press conference last month, per Business Insider.
