Mykelti Williamson Remembers Tom Hanks 'Kicking' Him Under the Table During Forrest Gump Audition

Mykelti Williamson opened up about how he auditioned for 'Forrest Gump' with Tom Hanks and how he realized the pair were 'kindred spirits.'

Williamson said he first heard about his eventual role as Forrest’s friend Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue when two of his acting students went in to audition for it. But Williamson thought he could play the part, so he asked his agent to set him up with an audition for the movie, directed by Robert Zemeckis. Since Forrest Gump — which went on to make over $670 million at the box office and won six Oscars, including Best Picture — Williamson has appeared in movies like Con Air and Ali and TV series like 24 and Justified.
