Bay Area hardcore quintet Scowl has signed with the Dead Oceans label — a division of Secretly that is home to Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski, Japanese Breakfast, and others — and have launched the partnership with a new single “Special” and video. The single was helmed by Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip (who also worked on the band’s EP “Psychic Dance Routine”) and mixed by Rich Costey (Interpol, Fiona Apple, Vampire Weekend) and it seems likely more new material is on the way. “As an audio brand heavily focused on music, entertainment, and culture, verifiable proprietary data has never been more important given the current speed of trends,” says Sony’s Jordy Freed.
