Keep reading to find out more… MTV did not offer an official reason as to why they weren’t airing a ceremony this year. MTV first started airing the Movie & TV Awards in 1992, however, over the past few years the show has faced several difficulties and low ratings. In 2020, the MTV Movie & TV Awards didn’t take place due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic and also because the network decided to switch the air date from late spring/early summer to December.
