MTV Europe awards: Taylor Swift, Raye and Pet Shop Boys are big winners in Manchester
Swift wins best artist award for third time as Liam Gallagher, Calvin Harris and Sabrina Carpenter also triumph
Instead of the usual voice calling out Deansgate-Castlefield and St Peter’s Square, passengers have been listening to Rita Ora warning: “Make sure you plan your journey – it’s gonna be busy!” Featuring performances from Shawn Mendes, Raye and the South African singer Tyla, this year was the first time the EMAs was held in Manchester – arguably England’s music capital – having previously travelled to Glasgow, Liverpool, Belfast and Edinburgh, as well as three visits to London since it began in 1994. Rita Ora leads emotional tribute to Liam Payne at MTV EMAs – videoTaylor Swift led the nominations, making an appearance in seven categories and coming away with four awards, including best artist and best video for Fortnight, her duet with Post Malone.
