MPA’s Charles Rivkin Says U.S. Needs Federal Film Incentives: ‘Production Brings Jobs’
Hollywood's top lobbyists used CinemaCon to push for longer theatrical windows and a federal film tax incentive.
Also as CinemaCon got underway, Michael O’Leary, president and CEO of newly-renamed Cinema United (formerly the National Association of Theater Owners), called on exhibitors and distributors to “come together” to transform the industry. It hits the bottom-line, and in many cases, undermines the ability of medium or smaller-budget movies to build an audience or even get off the ground….Longer windows, supported by marketing, would reduce the current level of decline, and create more revenue across the industry.” While 2025 box office hasn’t had a strong start with movies such as “Snow White” underperforming, upcoming titles include anticipated “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” and, of course, “Avatar: Fire and Ice.”
