Misty Copeland, George C. Wolfe and Jeffrey Wright Named Special Honorees at AAFCA Awards, Roy Wood Jr. Returns as Host (EXCLUSIVE)


The 15th annual AAFCA Awards will be hosted by Roy Wood Jr., with Misty Copeland, George C. Wolfe and Jeffrey Wright named special honorees.

Copeland shattered barriers in 2015, becoming the first Black woman to be promoted to principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre in the company’s 75-year history and after launching a career as a philanthropist and bestselling author, she founded Life In Motion Productions which debuted its first independently produced project, “Flower, at the Tribeca Festival last year. The Legend Award, presented to an artist in recognition of exemplary work, will go to Wright, who is nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his performance in “American Fiction,” adding to his haul of Tony, Emmy, AFI and Golden Globe wins. “Misty Copeland, George C. Wolfe, and Jeffrey Wright each represent the pinnacle of artistic excellence in their respective fields, and their contributions continue to inspire and pave the way for future generations,” Robertson stated.
