Miss USA Noelia Voigt Steps Down, Joins Growing List Of Celebrities Prioritizing Mental Health
Pageant organizers are supporting today's decision by Miss USA Noelia Voigt to relinquish the title to focus on her mental health.
She joins a growing list of performers, celebrities and athletes who have publicly cited mental health issues as cause for stepping away, most often temporarily, from their careers. In her statement today, posted on Instagram (read it in full below), Voigt wrote, in part, “Deep down I know that this is just the beginning of a new chapter for me, and my hope is that I continue to inspire others to remain steadfast, prioritize your mental health, advocate for yourself and others by using your voice, and never be afraid of what the future holds, even if it feels uncertain.” The Venezuelan-American competitor was representing the state of Utah, and has since embraced as her primary causes dating violence awareness and prevention, mental health, anti-bullying and immigration issues.
