The Costume Institute exhibit that tied into the gala showcased about 150 of Lagerfeld's greatest outfits across his groundbreaking six-decade career, including designs he made while working for brands like Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and his own eponymous label. Andrew Bolton, curator in charge, said that the show will be compartmentalized into a core exhibit and three additional zones — Land, Sea and Sky — which he told Vogue “is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.”
