Middle East Streamers Dominate Local Small Screens With Buzzy Series and Adaptations Like ‘Love Is Blind, Habibi’

Local streamers dominate the small screen in the Middle East with buzzy series and adaptations.

Streaming is booming across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, where the OTT subscription video market enjoyed robust 13% growth in 2023, led by local players Shahid and StarzPlay, according to media analyst Omdia. That said, StarzPlay Arabia recently managed a remarkable feat by selling “Million Dollar Listing UAE” — the first adaptation outside of America of Bravo’s long-running luxury real estate reality franchise —to the Roku Channel in the U.S. The bilingual show, featuring five United Arab Emirates brokers wheeling and dealing lavish properties in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, has broken viewership records on the streamer that has been smart in “identifying and filling content gaps in the region,” as the Omdia report puts it.
