Mel B under fire after 'damaging' joke about mental health condition

Mel B has been accused of "trivialising" a serious mental health condition by a charity after the Spice Girl made a joke about her love of cleanliness on Instagram

Posts like this, which trivialise the often devastating experience of OCD, are damaging as they confuse the public's understanding of this serious and debilitating mental health condition. People often experience intensely negative, repetitive and intrusive thoughts combined with a chronic feeling of doubt or danger, which become obsessions, reports the Mirror. The World Health Organisation has classified OCD as "one of the ten most disabling" conditions, and in the UK, approximately three-quarters of a million people are believed to be living with severe and debilitating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
