Mayor of Kingstown Season-Premiere Recap: New Mourning

Mike can’t even bury his mother without getting attacked. Can they give our guy one day off?

From the start, Mayor of Kingstown has been a show about the precarious balances that keep one small Michigan city — the home of multiple prison facilities and a lot of citizens who work inside them — from sliding into violent chaos. His job got harder in the season two finale when Miriam McLusky (Dianne Wiest) — the family’s matriarch and conscience — was shot dead during an armed standoff involving Mitch and Mike’s youngest brother Kyle (Taylor Handley), a Kingstown cop. And while the assistant district attorney Evelyn Foley (Necar Zadegan) isn’t a new character, in the premiere she does a heel-turn of sorts, letting her occasional lover Mike know she’s done looking the other way at the mess in Kingstown and is about to become “the fucking janitor.”
