Maya Hawke says in some cases, the cast’s social media following plays a huge role in whether or not a film will be made. Hawke said she knows several “smart directors” who’ve encountered producers that demand a benchmark number of Instagram followers from their cast before moving forward with a project. Hawke clarified that social media followers aren’t the end-all-be-all for every director, adding that about “10 of them” can get by on “reputation” alone.
