Maury Povich Reveals He Was ‘Dead Broke’ and His Parents Were ‘So Worried’ About Him Into His 60s

During a new episode of his newly launched podcast, 'On Par with Maury Povich,' the talk show host admitted he didn’t see great success until later in life.

During the Monday, April 7, episode of his newly launched podcast, On Par with Maury Povich, the longtime talk show host, 86, told his guest, Canadian former ice hockey player Sean Avery, how old he was when he saw a positive change in his pockets. The "crazy Australian" Povich referred to was media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who co-founded the Fox Broadcasting Company that launched A Current Affair. Though he’s widely known for sharing wild stories and paternity results on Maury from 1991 to 2022, Povich said A Current Affair “ended up being the biggest show, for the next five years in syndicated television” after it began in 1986.
