Matthew Sweet Shares Update After Stroke: ‘I May Never Play Guitar Again’ But Will ‘Try to Make Music’

Matthew Sweet has shared a personal update, thanking supporters and detailing his experiences after suffering a debilitating stroke in October.

A note from Sweet was posted on the GoFundMe page over the weekend, where he shared a personal update on his harrowing experience, thanked all of his supporters, and said that he’s “lived through the day where I realized I may never play guitar again,” but that he plans to try and make music and art again. “I did not know what was happening to me at the time as I didn’t really know what a stroke was and I was alone in Canada to take in the fact that I could only see double and that I was now numb on the left side of my body and face and arm and legs and feet,” he explained. During his time at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital (he said he was discharged in early December), he discovered the importance of caring, something he acknowledged he never really understood prior.
