Matteo Garrone's 'Io Capitano' and feminist dramedy 'There's Still Tomorrow' have both emerged as big winners at Italy's David di Donatello Awards.
Matteo Garrone’s Oscar-nominated drama “ Io Capitano,” about the odyssey of two young African men who decide to leave Dakar to reach Europe, and Paola Cortellesi ’s feminist dramedy “There’s Still Tomorrow” were both the big winners at Italy’s 69th David di Donatello Awards. The other frontrunner was Marco Bellocchio’s “Kidnapped,” the true story of a Jewish boy taken from his family and forced to convert to Catholicism in 19th century Italy, which won Davids for best adapted screenplay, production design, costumes, makeup and hair. Special Davids went to veteran Italian stage and screen actress Milena Vukotic who has worked with Federico Fellini, Luis Buñuel and Andrei Tarkovsky, among other masters, and beloved film and pop culture journalist, writer, and TV personality Vincenzo Mollica.
