The emotional journeys of this year’s Married At First Sight UK’s newlyweds have only just begun, but the show’s relationship expert, Mel Schilling, is already back in her native Australia guiding another group of hopeful romantics as they bravely walk down the aisle to marry complete strangers and then attempt to build successful marriages. “Filming began in August, so Gareth and Maddie came to Australia with me, and we based ourselves on the Gold Coast right next to the beach. Mel is doing really well following her treatment – “I would say I have almost all my energy back, so I’m starting to feel like me again,” she says – and is keen to chat about the new MAFS UK series, which she teases has “a lot of love” as well as featuring “very hot, sexy kind of attraction, which is so much fun to watch.” She says this year’s singletons are a group of people “more like you and I” and that she and the production team were very careful to screen out people who are looking for TV fame rather than a lasting marriage.
