Madonna Was 'Genuinely in Love' with Ex-Husband Sean Penn, Says 'Material Girl' Video Producer in New Doc

Madonna was 'genuinely in love' with Sean Penn, according to the director of her iconic 'Material Girl' music video. The pair met on the set of the video in 1985 and went on to marry six months later, before divorcing in 1989.

Speaking in archival audio featured in the new Sky documentary Becoming Madonna, Sharon Oreck, who produced the star’s iconic "Material Girl" music video, says, “She was genuinely in love with him, but it felt as if the attraction between the two of them was fueled by the public. Despite their rocky marriage, the pair have remained on good terms, and in 2016, Madonna said she was "still in love" with Penn and even offered to remarry him if he bid $150,000 in a charity auction. Her comments came as she hosted a charity gala at Art Basel in Miami, where she raised more than $7.5 million for the African nation of Malawi, according to the Associated Press.
