Actress Leslie Uggams is paying tribute to her late Roots co-star Louis Gossett Jr. following his death at age 87 this week.
The Emmy Award nominee, who played the role of Kizzy Reynolds in the ABC TV miniseries based on Alex Haley's novel Roots: The Saga Of An American Family (1976), revealed how Louis told 'the best stories of anybody I ever knew.' Before he became a firm favorite in Hollywood circles, he was known to be friendly with James Dean and studied acting with Marilyn Monroe, Martin Landau and Steve McQueen at an offshoot of the Actors Studio taught by Frank Silvera. Louis made a slew of guest appearances on such TV shows as Bonanza, The Rockford Files, The Mod Squad, McCloud and a memorable turn with Richard Pryor on The Partridge Family; he is seen after wining his Oscar in 1983
