King Charles III and Queen Camilla tied the knot in a 2005 wedding ceremony that broke tradition in a myriad of ways

One of the biggest royal scandals in recent memory came when King Charles III and the late Princess Diana announced their separation in 1992 after 10 years of marriage. (Elizabeth’s uncle, King Edward VIII, infamously abdicated the throne in 1936 in order to marry his beloved, Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée.) While she upheld the Church of England by missing the wedding, Elizabeth and her late husband, Philip, did hold a reception for the newlyweds at Windsor Castle.
