Lil Wayne Speaks on Hometown Super Bowl Halftime Snub: ‘It Hurt a Lot’


Lil Wayne was looking forward to representing his city at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, until the NFL tapped Kendrick Lamar

The rapper, 41, and NOLA native took to Instagram on Friday, September 13, to share his feelings about missing the opportunity to represent his city in what is routinely the most-watched television event of the year. The NFL ultimately chose Kendrick Lamar, who also performed alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J. Blige at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show in southern California in 2022. Grammy disses have taken many forms over the years, but in the 21st century, much of the commentary has focused on the awards show’s history of excluding women and Black artists from the major categories.
