Liam Neeson Wishes He Gave Up Drinking a Long Time Ago: Wasn't a 'Good Example for My Boys'

Liam Neeson, who gave up drinking in 2013, tells PEOPLE he wishes he stopped even before then. It wasn't 'a good example for my boys,' adds the father of two.

Neeson, who stars in the new drama Absolution, previously told GQ in 2014 that he gave up drinking the year prior. He said he noticed he was imbibing more after his wife, Natasha Richardson, died at 45 from a brain hemorrhage she suffered after a skiing accident. Aside from avoiding alcohol, Neeson tells PEOPLE he stays fit by hitting the gym on “most days,” but the former amateur boxer and action star — who has kicked butt in countless films like Taken, Non-Stop, The Commuter and his newest movie Absolution — declines to outline his routine.
