As 'Back to the Future' celebrates its 40th anniversary, Lea Thompson says the first film in the trilogy has 'a perfect screenplay.'

Fox as a superstar (and Teen Wolf six weeks later confirmed it), thanks to his charming and sympathetic performance as Marty McFly, a California teenager who gets caught "outatime" courtesy of his mad scientist pal who managed to build a time machine. The movie had the right premise, the right casting, the right special effects, the right careful deployment of Huey Lewis and the News, but, many would argue, the right airtight, Swiss watch screenplay, as created by Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. One person who is a particular fan is Lea Thompson, who, in a recent interview with PEOPLE, declared the OG BTTF to be the best of the trilogy, thanks to its rock solid presentation on the page.
