Northern Irish actor Laura Donnelly has reunited with writer Jez Butterworth and director Sam Mendes on London West End play “The Hills of California.” Donnelly provides the example of a friend whose parents from West Africa attended the play’s first preview and said they were “just stunned” at how similar the family dynamic in 1970s Blackpool was to those their own country. The actor, whose TV credits include HBO’s “The Nevers” and Starz show “Outlander,” is Butterworth’s partner and therefore had the advantage of seeing the play taking shape in front of her at home.
