Gypsy had been the victim of her mother's Munchausen-by-proxy and was falsely and repeatedly told that she was a sick child, which led to her receiving a number of unnecessary medical treatments over the years. In terms of Gypsy's other unnecessary treatments and false illnesses, she was told that she suffered from leukaemia and muscular dystrophy. Her ascent to social media fame has seen her gain millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram, with many learning about her story for the first time.
