Singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson called for passage of proposed legislation that would curb the use of unauthorized AIdeepfakes and voice clones, and she also told lawmakers that “we need to keep humanity in art. In order to survive the heightened scrutiny that such a statute would receive, it is critical that it both be tailored to remedy a specific harm and contain sufficient breathing space for expressive works and other kinds of protected speech.” Harvey Mason Jr., president and CEO of the Recording Academy, told lawmakers said AI is “the latest example of a tool that can expand opportunities for different voices to follow their passion and create new music,” as well as uses outside the creative process.
