Kristen Stewart Says Her Directorial Debut Is 'About Incest and Periods'

Kristen Stewart said her directorial debut, ‘The Chronology of Water,’ is a ‘thrill ride’ and ‘at times hard to watch’, and that she threatened to quit her film career if she couldn't make it

“My movie is about incest and periods and a woman violently repossessing her voice and body, and it is, at times, hard to watch … but it’s gonna be a fucking thrill ride,” Stewart, 34, told PORTER in an interview published on Monday, May 6. Based on Lidia Yuknavitch ‘s 2011 memoir of the same name, the story explores “issues of gender, sexuality, violence, and the family from the point of view of a lifelong swimmer turned artist,” according to a synopsis for the book. The synopsis adds: “In writing that explores the nature of memoir itself, her story traces the effect of extreme grief on a young woman’s developing sexuality that some define as untraditional because of her attraction to both men and women.
