Koji Fukada is set to direct “Love on Trial,” a film inspired by real cases in Japan where J-Pop idols have been sued for violating “no relationship” contracts. They previously collaborated on “Love Life,” which competed at Venice in 2022, as well as “Harmonium” (Cannes’ Un Certain Regard), and “A Missing Girl” (Locarno and Toronto film festivals). It provides a powerful commentary on the complexities of idol culture, personal freedom, and love, while highlighting the gender disparities and injustices that affect individuals, not only in Japan, but globally.”
