King Charles pays tribute following death of Harry Potter and Downton Abbey icon Dame Maggie Smith


Dame Maggie Smith has died at the age of 89 as tributes have poured in online. Her sons have issued a statement.

Yesterday, a statement revealed the Harry Potter and Downton Abbey star died “peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September”. The monarch paid tribute to the ‘national treasure’ (Credit: Instagram) Beloved by the royal family, Maggie received her Damehood from Queen Elizabeth II in 1990. As the curtain comes down on a national treasure, we join all those around the world in remembering with the fondest admiration and affection her many great performances and her warmth and wit that shone through both on and off the stage.”
