Sadly, a gruelling schedule of royal duties means King Charles isn’t free to while away his days digging holes and stuffing them with saplings, but indulging his green fingers is still a key part of the monarch’s day-to-day life. Two years ago the Queen revealed how she and Charles even engage in some healthy horticultural one-upmanship, saying, “My husband is an excellent gardener and we’re quite competitive about our fruit and vegetables. “The garden is designed to remind people of our interconnectedness with nature and of the beneficial medicinal properties she provides through countless plants, flowers and trees,” he wrote at the time.
