Kim Gordon Puts the Pedal to the Floor on New Song ‘Banging on the Freeway’
Kim Gordon has released a new single 'Banging on the Freeway,' along with a music video for the track.
The track is a clattering, mesmerizing blast of propulsive noise rock crossed with some far-flung hip-hop influences as Gordon sinks into repetitive hooks and phrases, including the titular “Bangin’ on the freeway” and lines like “Bad TV on repetition.” The video, meanwhile, largely comprises shots of Gordon and her daughter doing the most Los Angeles thing anyone can do in Los Angeles — driving — interspersed with hazy footage of someone dancing to the song. The physical deluxe edition set of The Collective will arrive on Dec. 13 as a silver vinyl record that includes a 7-inch with the two bonus tracks housed in the LP sleeve. “The songs come off as avant-garde, trap, old-school hip-hop, noisy, or musique concrète depending on where you drop the needle,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of the LP.
