Katy Perry's new record 143 becomes lowest scoring album on Metacritic since 2011
Metacritic is a site that assigns a numerical value to music, movies, TV shows and other materials, based on weighted scores from professional critics.
An All Music review by Fred Thomas included in the Metacritic score read, 'There simply isn’t a lot to like about these songs, and it’s desperately lacking in the kind of lighthearted, sometimes silly, sometimes salacious fun that used to define her stardom. The review noted that 'the maximalist productions that she used to lord over feel as dated as a Vine' and that Perry is 'trying to reclaim the cultural spot that she had in in the late ‘00s and early ‘10s through tricks - cheap if hooky affirmations, broad appeals to the male gaze - that worked back then.' Perry was one of a number of notable names who submit testimony or a sworn statement in the case, a group that included Lady Gaga, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne and Adam Levine, according to the AP.
