KATHRYN FLETT's My TV Week: Best TV you'll see all year
This week, UK TV writer Kathryn Flett reviews The Responder on BBC 1, Double The Money on Channel 4, Inside No 9 and Suits.
To recap: all the night-shift drug dealers, bent coppers, gangsters and murders have taken their toll on Carson’s marriage to Kate (MyAnna Buring) and working partnership with Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo). Ex-copper Tony Schumacher’s ability to weave taut plotting and convincingly mordant humour to create fully realised 3D characters in plausibly edge-of-the-seat dramatic situations reminds me of the work of Paul Abbott (Cracker, Clocking Off, Shameless, State Of Play) at his Noughties peak. Now in its final series, Inside No 9 (BBC iPlayer) is Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s brilliantly dark ‘Tales Of The Unexpected’ for the 21st century – as well-known for its stellar guest stars as for the tangential, cult-y take on mystery/horror/psychodrama.
