Kathryn Bigelow to Direct Next Film for Netflix

Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow ('The Hurt Locker,' 'Zero Dark Thirty') will direct a film for Netflix, marking her first feature since 2017's 'Detroit.'

The project marks Bigelow’s first feature since the 2017 police brutality period film “Detroit,” which was produced and distributed by Annapurna Pictures. Though that feature received positive reviews, it failed to capture the awards and commercial success of the director’s previous two works: the controversial 2012 CIA manhunt thriller “Zero Dark Thirty” and the acclaimed 2009 Iraq war feature “The Hurt Locker,” which won six categories at the 2010 Academy Awards including best picture. In an April article on the coming strategy of Netflix’s new film chief Dan Lin, the New York Times reported that Bigelow left the project a few months ago.
