The shocking news of Kate’s operation was announced in a Kensington Palace statement confirming that it had been a success and adding that she would “remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery”. Often heralded as King Charles’ “secret weapon”, Sophie, who celebrated her 59th birthday on 20 January, will be on hand to support in any way she can, joining the likes of hard-working Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
