Kate Winslet Shuts Down the Internet’s Beloved Kate-Leo Meme

Kate Winslet discussed how the film industry has changed for women since the beginning of her career — touching upon her life after 'Titanic.'

During an interview with Net-a-Porter, Kate Winslet discussed how the film industry has changed for women since the beginning of her career — touching upon life after Titanic and the rise of the#MeToo movement nearly two decades later. When reflecting on the media’s behavior following the massive success of the 1997 film and the often harsh spotlight placed on its leads, Winslet said, “I felt like I had to look a certain way, or be a certain thing, and because media intrusion was so significant at that time, my life was quite unpleasant.” She continued, “Journalists would always say, ‘After Titanic, you could have done anything and yet you chose to do these small things’… and I was like, ‘Yeah, you bet your fuckin’ life I did! The actress said that while she wears the idea of fame “lightly,” she acknowledges that Titanic “continues to bring people huge amounts of joy.” As for the famous “‘Find yourself someone who looks at you the way Leo looks at Kate” meme, she laughed: “[He’s looking at me like that because] he just knows I can see right through it all,” adding, “I think when you experience something so seismic, so young… we really went through that together.”
