The 45-year-old became a movie star in 2000, playing a glamorous but fragile rock groupie in the beloved Cameron Crowe film Almost Famous. She later sang in the movies Nine and Music.

As her career proceeded into the 2000s, she became a romantic comedy staple, starring in such pictures as How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Raising Helen, Fool's Gold, My Best Friend's Girl and You, Me And Dupree. In 2021 she could be heard signing again in Music, a movie directed by Sia and starring Kate alongside Maddie Ziegler (left) of Dance Moms fame Kate delivered a showstopping performance of Cinema Italiano, an original number created especially for the movie by the stage show's songwriter Maury Yeston.
