On a Saturday night interview with CNN en Español, Karla Sofía Gascón said the viral tweet in which she appeared to call her “Emilia Pérez” co-star Selena Gomez a “rich rat” is completely fabricated. Among the posts, was one in which Gascón apparently said of Gomez: “She’s a rich rat who plays the poor bastard whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend (Justin Bieber) and his wife.” The quote drew attention from media outlets like People, but the Academy Award nominee now says the comment was not hers. The day prior, Gascón took to Instagram to share a lengthy response regarding the social media controversy, making similar claims about how her words were manipulated or taken out of context.
