As Karla Sofía Gascón faces continued backlash for past comments, the 'Emilia Pérez' actress is stepping back from the spotlight.
Karla Sofía Gascón in ‘Emilia Pérez’Netflix The first-time Oscar nominee recently responded to writer-director Jacques Audiard ‘s Deadline interview denouncing her actions, as she explained her reason for sitting out of campaigning this awards season. “Following Jacques interview that I understand, I decided, for the film, for Jacques, for the cast, for the incredible crew who deserves it, for the beautiful adventure we all had together, to let the work talk for itself, hoping my silence will allow the film to be appreciated for what it is, a beautiful ode to love and difference,” she wrote on Instagram. Audiard previously expressed his profound disappointment with Gascón’s behavior and her “inexcusable” comments, accusing her of “playing the victim.” He essentially disowned her for the position she has put others in, and for her continued appearances filled with half-apologies, as well as the hurt felt by those she targeted in her original missives.
